Nasi Ayam Taliwang is an Indonesian dish from Lombok. Tried and tested, the owners wanted to bring in the flavours of Singapore. So, with an old recipe of ancient Taliwang, they twisted the sambal here to meet the palate of Singaporeans.

Famous on the menu is their Signature Nasi Ayam Taliwang ($10.10), the chicken here goes through the process of steaming first before it is being grilled. Every bite is tender and you can definitely taste a slight smoky taste. If you love spice, this stall will be your favourite go-to. The sambal packs with a Bang! And definitely may be too spicy for some if your tolerance level is rather low. So be warned, but spice lovers, you’re in for a treat.

Nasi Ayam Taliwang has also been awarded the Michelin Plate 2021 so kudos to them! Today, they have opened up in various places including Yishun, Tampines, Kaki Bukit and Canberra. So, no excuse for you to not try it out! Order here now.

I personally hold this stall close to my heart. It was my go-to during my secondary school days and the best dish to eat especially during a cold day. Legend says the recipes used here are over 50 years old! This family has been running the stall for more than 30 years.

My personal favourite is their Mee Soto ($4.70). It’s a bowl of comfort, with yellow noodles and shredded debone chicken in a savoury chicken broth. The broth itself is so rich, you can definitely tell it was boiled for hours to give off such flavours. Despite it being shredded chicken, the chicken still manages to maintain its tenderness. To end things off, you must add a teaspoon of their sambal, but a little goes a long way! Alternatively, if you are not a fan of yellow noodles, you should try out their Soto Ayam ($4.70). Instead of yellow noodles, Nasi Impit (Compressed cooked rice) is used. The Nasi is so soft and blends really well with every bite of the soup. Fun fact, did you know a majority of their dishes are HPB labelled “lower in calories”? Yes or Yes!

So if you are living in the East, you are blessed for every bowl guarantees to give you Inspirasi (Inspiration) for whatever you’re doing or need to do! Get inspired today and order yourself a bowl here.

3. Mat Noh & Rose Authentic Ginger Fried Chicken Rice

(Whampoa Drive Blk 91 Market, #01–27)

Another popular favourite is Mat Noh and Rose’s chicken rice. Not just any chicken rice, but Ginger Fried Chicken Rice ($5.50). We all can be a little sensitive when it comes to our favourite fried chicken fast food. Mat Noh and Rose take their own take into offering one of the crispiest fried chicken you’d ever try.

Every plate promises a large and generous portion of ginger fried chicken, chicken rice, cucumber slices, and a small bowl of soup. My favourite part, the chicken skin. So crispy, so fatty yet not oily. Every bite brings out the ginger taste but it’s not strong such that it complements the chicken really well. So all the more you’ll love it if you are not a fan of ginger. The tenderness of the chicken meat when dipped with the sambal and eaten with rice, is a match made in heaven.

This plate of goodness leaves us “Mat Noh” choice to order one for ourselves! Skip the queue and go get yours here!

A-yam ready to order myself another plate of Nasi Ayam. So if you agree with our recommendations, go put a wing on it and order on WhyQ now! Do check out the other stalls we have available on our website or app as well. Enjoy!
