1. NORTH: All ‘Bout Chicken

If you still have space in your tummy after scarfing down all that chicken, give the RJ Original Pizza-wich ($8.30) a try. It’s a crossover between pizza and sandwich, containing egg mayo, onions, jalapeno, minced chicken and mozzarella. 2. EAST: Sari Bistari Changi Village Famous Nasi Ayam Penyet

We all know that the East houses lots of good hawker food, and here’s another stall to add to that reputation — Sari Bistari’s Ayam Penyet ($8). Right off the bat, the Ayam Penyet seizes your attention with its golden-brown skin — a sure sign that the chicken has been fried to perfection. Let’s talk about why this is perfect for iftar. The chicken thigh is not only crispy and succulent, it is GIGANTIC and you know it’s gonna satisfy your tummy. Finally, Sari Bistari’s sambal may look mild, but there’s a fierce heat to it which adds another dimension to the dish. 3. WEST: Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak
(Boon Lay Place Food Village, #01–106)
The key to a good plate of nasi lemak is one that has fragrant lemak rice, robustly spicy sambal chili, and flavourful chicken wings. Boon Lay Power’s Nasi Lemak with Chicken Wing Set ($7.10) checks all the boxes, as expected of a famous stall known as the classic supper spot for Westies.
The highlight has to be their chicken wing, which is well-marinated in tasty batter and boasts that golden-brown look we just love to see on fried chicken. Crunchy and savoury, the chicken wing is sprawled on a bed of delectable and fluffy rice. It is a superb pairing, with the coconut fragrance and tenderness of the rice juxtaposing with the umami and crunch of the chicken wing.
Sambal chili plays a strong supporting role in this dish too. Boon Lay Power Nasi Lemak’s sambal is spicy, yet has a slight sweetness that teases the tongue. When your rice is coated with this, you’ll start to understand why chilli is added to so many dishes.

4. CBD: Aliff Rojak (Maggie Goreng Chicken)

When it comes to Aliff Rojak’s Maggie Goreng Chicken ($6.10), they are very generous with its protein, with the chunks of meat being more abundant than I am used to from other stalls. What’s more impressive is that this isn’t just a case of quantity over quality. I was surprised by the savoury flavour of the Maggie Goreng that kept me craving more. Each bite of meat was tender and moreish, which went amazingly well with the chewy and umami-infused noodles. Also, the vegetables had a light flavour which presented a welcome counterpoint against the intensity of the meat and noodles. Highly recommended, order it here!
5) SOUTH: Fahzilaah Halal Food (Mee Goreng)
(Bukit Merah View Market & Hawker Centre, #01–52)
Fahzilaah Halal Food is a hidden gem that holds an unblemished 5 star rating on Google Reviews. There are many tantalizing options on their menu, but the star of the show for us was their Mee Goreng ($7.10). The staple Singaporean dish has a simple composition: spicy fried egg noodles, stir fried with assorted ingredients. Simplicity makes perfection harder to achieve, but BOY, Fahzilaah hit the ball out of the park with their version of the dish. We were floored by the powerful yet balanced flavours in the mee goreng — it was a genius concoction of savoury salty flavours tempered by a gentle sweetness. There was also a slight char to the mee goreng noodles which gave it a more substantial bite. This complemented the chunky mee goreng sauce and elevated the dish even further.
