First on the list, we have the famous Ghim Moh Carrot Cake. This stall promises to greet you with its fragrant and appetizing aroma of carrot cake. Many have raved about their black carrot cake ($4.60) being sweeter than what you can find in other hawkers. The lightly salted radish cakes will help to balance the sweetness from the dark soy sauce. Not a big fan of the sweetness? Opt for the savoury alternative — white carrot cake, which has a slightly crispy texture, contrasted with its soft and smooth texture. The secret to their carrot cake — freshly made daily radish cakes with the chai poh carefully marinated and made from scratch! Because of this, they only have a limited portion available daily, so don’t miss out and get yours ordered here!

Another popular carrot cake hawker stall on WhyQ is Bukit Merah View Carrot Cake! This stall has more than 60 years of family history. Today, it is managed by 3 brothers determined to carry on their family business. Many residents have claimed this carrot cake to be one of the best in town. If your favourite part of carrot cake is the radish cakes this is THE place to go.

Try out their white carrot cake ($5.50) and you’ll notice the radish cake cubes here are larger than usual and are embedded with a generous serving of egg. You’ll be surprised by how soft, yet slightly firm the texture of the radish cakes are. Compared to their black carrot cake, the carrot cake evokes a stronger wok hei fragrant! The stall no longer makes their own carrot cake, but that is no excuse as they selectively get their supply from a factory that still mills the rice traditionally rather than just using rice flour. Perfect for any time of the meal, get your Bukit Merah View Carrot Cake fixed here.

Third on our list is Lim Hai Sheng Cooked Food. Those living in Ang Mo Kio would be very familiar with this popular stall. To sum up their carrot cake in one sentence it’ll be, “Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside”. Seatbelts on as this stall has way too many intricate details to their cooking! The amount of passion put into every carrot cake sold can be tasted with every bite.

Popular for their white carrot cake ($4.60), this stall serves a generous portion of egg. Every crispy layer of fried egg wraps around the savoury soft carrot cake. The chai poh were adequately added, giving every bite the needed crunch. This stall makes and steams its own carrot cake instead of using factory-made ones. Pair it up with their homemade special chilli paste as it evokes the right amount of spice needed for your carrot cake. To provide a healthier option for their customers, only vegetable oil is used for their cooking. Here is the mind-blowing part, when you have the chance to observe how they cook, you’ll start to notice them spraying something onto the carrot cakes. It’s fish sauce! Let’s wrap up the list with Lau Goh Teochew Chye Thow Kway, promising to offer you the best of both worlds. The owner, Lau Goh, first set up this stall along Merchant Road in the 1960s. After his passing, his son Peter Goh is taking over the stall today.

Opt for their combo black and white carrot cake ($8.90) for the perfect combination. We like that the radish cakes here are chopped into smaller pieces, allowing each piece to soak up all the flavours from the crunchy chai poh. Their black carrot cake is packed with a generous amount of dark sweet soy sauce, just enough to caramelise the eggs and radish cakes enveloped within. Scrap your chopsticks and you’ll hear the crips from the eggs! Their white carrot cake is as good with it’s perfectly crisped edges and not too greasy. Reviews have mentioned the need to eat it with the sambal. It will encapsulate the flavours of the various ingredients, such that it hikes up the flavour profile of the white carrot cake. All dishes here are cooked with vegetable oil instead of lard, definitely a healthier choice for all. Get your combo plate of carrot cakes here!
