In a blink of an eye, we’ve entered the last month of 2021. While everyone is sharing their Spotify’s wrapped, WhyQ has compiled some of the most popular Hawker Centres that many of you have ordered from! So, let’s wrap it up!

  1. Bedok Interchange Hawker Centre

One of the many Hawker Centres that is bound to evoke some nostalgia. It was first opened in 1979 and then renovated in 2014, and today houses an estimated 70 hawker stalls.

Top on the list is Bedok Chwee Kueh (01–19). Featured in many of our previous medium articles, This 2 MICHELIN Bib Gourmand stall is known for its flavourful chai poh topping that goes perfectly well with its rice cakes. It is also labelled “Lower in Calories” by the Health Promotion Board. Get your Chwee Kueh (3pcs for $2.60) fixed here!

The 2nd most popular stall here at Bedok is Jefri The Original Botak Chicken Rice (01–65). Perhaps one of the best Halal Chicken Rice options you’d ever find. A plate of Nasi Ayam ($4.70) is served with thin slices of chicken, cucumber, a bowl of soup and the chilli (which is a must!). While some have commented, it does not give off as much fragrance compared to typical chicken rice, it is perfect for those whose palate favours clean flavours! Click here to order!

2. Old Airport Road Food Centre

Second, on the list of most popular hawker centres is … Old Airport Road Food Centre! This food centre was built in 1972 to resettle street hawkers found all around Kallang Estate.

If you love prawn noodles, you’d probably be familiar with Whitley Road Big Prawn Noodle (01–98). This stall freshly prepares your order on the spot and if you are craving for a bowl of comfort opt for their Big Prawn Pork Ribs Noodle ($8.60). While the prawn may not seem as generous, it is thick in meat and fresh. The pork ribs here to die for, it is so tender a light bite is enough for it to fall off the bone. The prawn broth has been boiled over for hours giving off a tasty prawn flavour that is not too sweet either. Shrimp-ly the best, order yours now!

Another popular stall under WhyQ is the Western BBQ (01–53), offering your typical western favourites. They have been operating as old as when Old Airport Road Food Centre was first built! Popular for their Chicken Chop ($10.10), their grilled chicken thigh is succulent and tender. It is then topped with gravy and complemented with side dishes, your typical Singapore style Western dish. Unlike other western stalls, they serve old-fashioned butter bread as one of their sides! Fluffiness and the colourful cream of the bread will definitely evoke some nostalgic memories! Order here!

3. Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre

3rd in place and wrapping up the list for today, we have Kampung Admiralty Hawker Centre! While it may have only opened in 2017, it has gained great popularity and favour especially to those living in the North.

If you intend to order from here, Yu Kee Braised Duck Kway Chap (02–15) is one of our favorites here on WhyQ. The Kway complements well with the braised duck accompanied with supple pork intestines, pork belly and egg which were deliciously braised in a dark sauce. Kway Chap Set is going for only $6.30, order yours here now.

A second favourite here at Kampung Admiralty is Uncle Penyet. Started in 2005, this stall has gained popularity and is now operating 11 stalls nationwide. You can never go wrong with a plate of Ayam Penyet Set ($9.80) served with Crispy Fried Chicken with Rice and tahu (tofu). No worries, Uncle Penyet thoughtfully packs their chilli, curry and crunchy fried crumbs separately, all to retain the crispness and freshness as it gets delivered to you! Every bite of the chicken is so tender yet crispy with the fried crumbs. Kick it off with some spice as you dip with their SUPER SHIOK SUPER PEDAS sambal! Enjoy one here now!

That is all, as we’ve wrapped up our Top 3 Most Ordered from Hawker Centres here on WhyQ! Are you interested to find out who is next on the list? Let us know, and we’ll reveal it! WhyQ thanks you for continuously supporting our local hawkers especially during this pandemic. We seek to continue serving Singapore’s local favourites at the comfort of your home! Enjoy!
